Questions, answered.
The things people ask us most — about first visits, insurance and the CDCP, nerves, emergencies, and everything in between. Search or filter to find yours.
About sixty minutes: a full exam, low-dose digital X-rays if they’re due, intra-oral photos, a gentle clean, and a written treatment plan with prices. You leave knowing exactly where things stand. What to expect at your first visit
No. You can book directly for any service. For specialist work we don’t offer in-house, we’ll arrange the referral and introduce you ourselves.Browse every service
There’s no paperwork to download or print — we complete the short intake together at the clinic. Arrive ten minutes early and it’s done over a tea. To save time, book online: it takes a couple of minutes and skips the phone entirely.New patient guide
We submit claims on the spot for most major insurers, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, and Desjardins. You pay only your portion — often nothing on a routine visit.Insurance and payment guide
You’re very welcome. We give a clear price before any treatment and offer interest-free payment plans on larger work, so cost never forces a rushed decision.Paying without insurance
Debit, Visa, Mastercard, and Amex. For planned treatment we can set up an interest-free payment plan.Insurance and payment at your first visit
Yes. Allo Dental accepts CDCP patients and bills Sun Life, the plan administrator, directly, so you pay only your share at the desk. Your co-payment and anything the plan does not cover are put in writing before treatment begins. How the CDCP works at Allo
In 2026 you qualify if you have no access to private dental insurance, your adjusted family net income is under $90,000, you and your spouse or partner filed last year’s Canadian tax return, and you are a Canadian resident for tax purposes. All four must hold, and eligibility is re-confirmed every year. Coverage through government programs such as Healthy Smiles Ontario or ODSP does not disqualify you.Full eligibility rules
No, and it helps to know that going in. It costs nothing to apply or renew, but what you pay depends on your adjusted family net income: below $70,000 the plan pays 100% of the CDCP fee, from $70,000 to $79,999 it pays 60%, and from $80,000 to $89,999 it pays 40%. The rest is your co-payment. At Allo, our fees for covered services match the CDCP fee grid, so your co-payment is normally the only cost for covered care. What you pay under the CDCP
No. Anyone with access to private dental insurance, through their own or a family member’s employer, a pension, a student plan or a purchased policy, does not qualify, even if they never enrolled or used it.Who the CDCP is for
Recall exams and cleanings (scaling up to 4 units per 12 months for adults), root canal treatment, and crowns and dentures with preauthorization are covered. Dental implants, bridges, veneers, teeth whitening, night guards and sports mouthguards are excluded, and orthodontics is currently not available under the plan. We still offer those treatments; you would pay privately, with a written price before you decide.Covered and excluded services
No, and you should never be asked to. Sun Life can only reimburse dental providers, not CDCP members, so if you paid the full cost yourself the plan could not pay you back. That is why direct billing matters: we bill Sun Life, and you pay only your share at the desk.Direct billing explained
Nobody is enrolled automatically, including seniors. You apply online through My Service Canada Account or by phone at 1-833-537-4342, with your Social Insurance Number and last year’s tax return filed, and every member renews each year. Only care received on or after your coverage start date is covered, so bring your enrolment letter or member card to your first visit.Applying and renewing, step by step
Yes. Tell us when you book and we adjust the pace: breaks on a raised hand, headphones, clear narration of every step, and sedation options if you need them.Nervous about the dentist? Read this first
Yes, for patients who need it. We’ll talk through whether it’s appropriate at your exam and explain exactly how it works beforehand. How we keep visits calm

In-chair whitening and custom take-home trays are both options. We start with a consult to check whether whitening is right for you and set realistic expectations.Teeth whitening
Used correctly, yes. We use professional-grade products and tailor the strength to your teeth, which is gentler than most over-the-counter kits.Teeth whitening: what actually works?
Every six months suits most people, but we’ll recommend a rhythm based on your gum health — sometimes more often for a while, sometimes less. How often should you see a dentist?
It shouldn’t. If your gums are sensitive, tell us. We can numb the area and take it slowly. Most people find it the easy part.Dental exams and cleanings
